The Disney Korea Creative workflow is slightly different when it comes to the outputs required at each pass, the KNP tagging process, the Formality Table upload procedure, as well as the Localization List review process.
When a Korean title is kicked off for Creative, please take note of the below and flag any uncertainties or deviations to Client Ops.
Outputs Required at Prelim vs. Outputs Required at Final
For Korean titles, Creative work usually begins at Prelim for a couple of episodes so dubbing materials are available for the studios as early as possible. However, the outputs required at Prelim are usually: Creative Letter (CL), Cast Dubbing List (CDL), and Creative Series Overview (CSO).
When the final proxies land, Creative is responsible for updating the prelim Creative outputs as well as delivering the remaining ones: Localization List (LL), Key Names and Phrases (KNPs), and Formality Reports (FTs).
Note: The Archive output is no longer required since the OM Creative tasks are part of the DL job.
Note: If there are additional outputs in the initial kickoff email, Creative Coordination needs to flag back to the PM for either confirmation or removal of the unnecessary reports.
Workflow per Output
Localization List (LL)
Similarities: The Disney Korea LL follows the standard LL workflow with the addition of a scheduled LL review step where the PLDL editor reviews the LL, makes changes, and sends the updated LL back to Creative to update and archive.
Special Instructions: To update the LL and implement the feedback from the PLDL editor, follow these instructions:
- Download the latest Creative LL
- Download the reviewed LL (usually attached in the emails)
- Compare the decisions, event descriptions, and timecodes between the two LL documents.

Disclaimers are often split into multiple cards and retimed
- If a new event is added, please make sure to review the event type and other information per the standard creative guidelines
- During their review of the LL, the PLDL editors sometimes crop the OV text when the localization decision is Forced Subtitle – Partial. In your review of the LL, ensure the OV text is present, and the partial text is mentioned in the PARTIAL FORCED NARRATIVE TEXT :: NOTES column. (insert two photos here)
- If an event is missing from both the LL and the DL, it needs to be flagged back to KOR PLDL editor so the two documents match.

- Carry the changes over from the reviewed LL to the Creative LL
- Retain proper naming conventions
- Re-upload the LL to the Narrative Title List shell
- Update the CSO folder with the latest LL and re-upload to the Creative Series Overview asset shell.
Note: the reviewed LL provided by Client Ops is not the same document Creative submits, so any changes need to be applied to the Creative LL.
Creative Letter (CL)
Similarities: Standard Creative Letter workflow
Special Instructions:
- For kickoff emails with “Currents” in the subject line, please get confirmation from the PM whether Creative will follow the Currents workflow (similar to the Medalist) or the Originals workflow (similar to Hyper Knife)
- The Creative Letter document for Currents is different from the Creative Letter document for Originals. The Originals CL is more thorough with episodic information, character descriptions, performance notes and synopsis.
Cast Dubbing List (CDL)
Similarities: Standard Cast List workflow
Special Instructions:
- For kickoff emails with “Currents” in the subject line, please get confirmation from the PM whether Creative will follow the Currents workflow (similar to the Medalist) or the Originals workflow (Hyper Knife)
Key Names and Phrases (KNPs)
Similarities: The Korean KNP process is quite unique, and editors need to take note of the instructions below when working on a Korean title.
Special Instructions:
- For KOR Originals, KNPs are usually only required at Final.

When the PLDL editor completes the DL, they attach a KNP document to be uploaded to the Localization Library. This request is usually sent through the Localization Library inbox and is assigned by the Creative Loc Coordination distribution list.
Korean KNP Workflow:
- When the KNP document is received, Creative editors copy the data over into this template (LocLib KNP Korean Import) and also add the relevant season and episode tags (S1; F006 or Ep. 06, but the tags need to be consistent throughout the life of the project)
- The Creative editor uploads the KOR OV and English terms into the Localization Library
- The Creative editor watches the proxy for possible additional KNPs that need to be tagged. If any terms are missing, they need to be flagged back to the PLDL editor for feedback.
- If the additional terms list is approved, the Creative editor adds them to the Localization Library with the required information like the episode tags and any necessary notes
- Once this is complete, the Creative editor exports a LocLib KNP export per episode, rename the document following the standard naming conventions, and uploads it to the Key Names and Phrases asset shell.
Formality Table (FT)
Similarities: The Korean Formality Table update and upload process is unique, and the below instructions must be followed
Special Instructions:
- Similar to the KNP workflow outlined above, FTs are usually only required at Final.
- When the PLDL editor completes the DL, they send a LocLib request to add KNPs and FTs to be uploaded to the Localization Library. This request is usually sent through the Localization Library inbox and is assigned by the Creative Loc Coordination distribution list.
Formality Table LocLib Process
FT Clean-Up
First of all, please note that for Korean titles, the PLDL editors do not use the same formality report template that Creative uses, so we must create our own template following these steps:
- It’s always easier to copy the formality table information and paste it into the standard template found here: Formality Table Template
- Before copying the formality table, empty any cells that have entries like “Not Yet Known”, “Unknown”, or “No Interaction” …etc.
- To add the gender tags, refer to the client KNPs tab but if no KNPs are available, you will need to reference other resources like IMDB.

Make sure you update the title information at the top of the document
- Beware of any extra spaces before the names in the Formality Table as this can hinder the uploading of the file to the formality section in the Localization Library, and the Localization Library, unfortunately, won't specify what the error is.
- Please make sure that the Formal-Informal speech pattern is written as F/I as other variations like F:I, or F,I will hinder the upload.

When your document is all cleaned up and ready for upload, please follow these steps to import the FT into the Localization Library:

To upload, go to the Localization Library and search for the title you're uploading to

Go to the Character Formality tab

Select which season and episode you're uploading to

When you click on the Toolbox list, the below two options will appear. Select Import CE Formality. You can select your file and upload it.
Creative Series Overview (CSO)
The Creative Series Overview is a zipped folder that contains the Creative deliverables. The contents of this folder vary between the prelim and the final versions.
At Prelim: the CSO folder will only have the consolidated CL and CDL documents
At Final: the CSO folder will have the consolidated CL and CDL documents, as well as a folder for episodic LLs and another folder for episodic KNPs.
Creative Coordination Reminders
- When validating deadlines, always validate both the due date and the due time; do not just look at the date because EOD in Korea is SOD in Cairo and Cape Town.
- Please make sure to thoroughly read every kickoff email to confirm the required deliverables. If you notice any unusual requests or non-standard workflows, flag them to Client Ops immediately before setting up the title trackers.
- Please note that the Creative Letter and Cast List documents are consolidated documents per season. When assigning episodes, be mindful of how and to whom you are assigning these outputs. You need to ensure your assignment strategy guarantees the integrity of the document so that episodic information is correctly compiled and nothing is lost when multiple editors are involved.
