Naming Convention:
Show Title Season # Episode # Version Report Name
LR e.g.: The Agency S1 Ep. 108 Final Localization Report
CI e.g.: The Agency S1 Ep. 108 Final Contract Inventory
KNPs e.g.: The Agency S1 Ep. 108 Final KNPs
Outputs:
Showtime is only concerned with:
For most of the Showtime titles, we mainly provide localization reports (LRs)
Contract Inventory:
The report is exported from CE. In the contract inventory output, mark [X] beside only the main characters of the season with the help of credits, content, or online resources.
Key Names and Phrases:
Same rules as any KNPs report, where we mark and tag all KNPs terms on CE with the appropriate category and then work on the Loc. Lib. to add all akas, season and episode tags, as well as approve the terms. Just note that you do not need to add any notes to any of the terms added like the NDTV or D+ WF.
Localization Report:
The client’s Template is up on OD in the Showtime Folder. So, feel free to export any LR or the full script from CE and then copy over the events to the Showtime template.
It is the same LR where we do a full watch through and flag the required Picture and Audio events.
However, please note that we are not required to add any decisions at all for any of the events we add to our LR; that is for the client to fill in.
Another extra step for Showtime, and similarly to CBS LRs, is that we are required to add screengrabs to all Picture events only, to their own LR Template.
Please always use the app Snipping Tool to capture all OSTs.
- To insert a thumbnail:
- Go to the "Insert" tab on the Excel ribbon.
- Click on the "Pictures" button in the "Illustrations" group.
- Choose “Place In Cell,” then “This Device.”
- Browse and select the desired image/s from your computer. Note that we can hold the left-click and choose all screenshots if all the events order follows the screenshots order naming [1, 2, 3...]. Then click "Insert."
- The picture will now appear in the worksheet, but if it appears floating over the cells and not tied to any specific cell, please be sure to tie it to the appropriate cell.
- If your screen goes black when taking a screengrab, make sure to turn off graphics acceleration in Chrome.
OSTs should look like this:
Here is how the Audio side should look like:
Our LR should always include both picture and audio events unless instructed otherwise.
- For the Header in the Template:
Please add the Series/ Feature Title, the Season, the Episode Title, if we have that info, and lastly the Episode number. Sometimes, the episode title will appear before the proxy plays.
On the Picture side:
- On-Screen Texts
- Narrative Titles
- For the OSTs and NTs, the TEXT TYPE in the LR could be either Dater/Locator/Speaker Identifier or On-Screen Text for the events, depending on what category suits the onscreen text best.
- Main Title or Episode Title
- The TEXT TYPE in the LR is always Program/Episode Title for that event.
- Subtitles
- The TEXT TYPE in the LR is always Subtitle for that event.
- Logos, during the intro and the outro of the episode/feature
- The TEXT TYPE in the LR is always Opening/Closing Branding for that event.
On the Audio side:
- Foreign Dialogue, only if there is no subtitle event or any burn-ins on screen for that dialogue. It should be audible and clear. And in the case of one-word mid-English dialogue, only if it is foreign and not known in the English language. The event should look like that:
- “Esposito speaks German: "Fräulein"[No EN Subtitle burn-in in OV].” The TEXT TYPE in the LR is always blank for that event, as there is no category for the event in the client’s template yet.
- Archival License Media Material, only add important ones that affect the plot, like when there is dialogue in those events, like news and interviews, and the like. But there is no need to add silent footage or photos. The event should look like that:
-
Archival Footage from an interview with Eminem.
- The TEXT TYPE in the LR is always Licensed Clip for that event.
- Background Songs, only added when they're very plot pertinent. That includes songs that play in the intro sequences of the show, as it is the show’s main theme. However, we are not required to add any songs that play during transitions between scenes; those are irrelevant and shouldn’t be in the LR. The event should look like that:
- "Get Crazy" Performed by LMFAO. The TEXT TYPE in the LR is always blank for that event, as there is no category for the event in the client’s template yet.
- Songs Sung by Characters, all songs and singsongs sung by Characters are added to the LR. Only add them if they serve the plot, the scene is otherwise silent and the song is the most prominent thing that happens, so it will have to be audible and clear. The event should look like that:
- "Get Crazy" by LMFAO, sung by Jane. The TEXT TYPE in the LR is always blank for that event, as there is no category for the event in the client’s template yet.
-
Following the new template instructions, for vocals included per the above guidelines, please make sure to copy those events into the Vocal Tab and retain the same event numbering from the general Localization Report tab:
Please also note that, at times, the client will only request LRs and none of the other outputs, so be sure to double-check the kick-off emails as well as what outputs are assigned.
The source assets that will be linked for reference:
- Dialogue List
- PDF Script
- If the DL is available, then it is a straightforward WF, where we upload the scripts and work normally on CE, to flag the required events.
- However, if the PDF Script is the one attached, then it is only used as a reference for us, as it might not have any OST or not all of them as well as not carrying the needed audio events. So, it’ll depend solely on the editor to flag everything as they’re watching.
- We’ll be doing more manual work on the LR. The Editor will need to create their own script on CE as they’re watching, to include all the Creative Events. For further details:
- We’ll work manually on CE to include all valid OSTs on the picture side and the needed audio events on the dialogue/audio side, all with the correct In and Out Time Codes on CE.
Important Notes:
- Always double-check that only Subtitle events have English US added in the “Transcription Language” column and the name of the Character Speaking in the Character column.
- Always add one event only for Archival License Media Material event if it’s footage of a performance and no need to create two events.
- Always make sure that format, size, and font are all consistent throughout the sheet, [Calibri, 11].
- If OST appears during the intro sequence, they should still be added as On-Screen Text and not Opening/Closing brands. Let's leave that category only for Logos that appear at the start and end of the episode.
- Please be sure to add screengrabs to all OST events and double-check that the OST event matches the screengrab opposite it.
- All logos at the start and the end of a show or feature need to be flagged and added to our LR with their screenshots.
- Always adjust the event numbering before uploading.
- Always have the events follow in chronological order, depending on the In TC.
- Always save a WCD for your script (by downloading a full script when you’re done adding and timing events in CE) even if we don’t have an archive output, so all the work is saved.
- If the exact same OST or narrative title keep popping up several times throughout the episode, only include it the first time it appears
- If your screen goes black when taking a screengrab, make sure to turn off graphics acceleration in Chrome. When you're done with your Showtime task, please make sure to enable graphics acceleration again so it doesn't prevent you from accessing other proxies for other tasks.
